Thanks to aggressive lobbying from the World Jewish Congress, Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, is banning all criticism of “Zionists” on its social media platforms because the word “Zionist” is “an antisemitic proxy for ‘Jews,'” we are told.
Anyone on Facebook or Instagram who criticizes “Zionists” for “running the world or controlling the media” will be immediately banned for engaging in “hate speech,” the World Jewish Congress revealed about Meta’s plans, which were revealed in a blog post.
“The announcement is a much-needed advancement in our ongoing fight against online antisemitism and hatred,” the group added in a statement. “By recognizing and addressing the misuse of the term ‘Zionist,’ Meta is taking a bold stand against those who seek to mask their antisemitism.”
Check out the video below of World Jewish Congress president Ron Lauder calling for all nations of the world to adopt “severe laws” that punish citizens who engage in antisemitism with jail time:

Meta says it received “input” from multiple pro-Jewish groups complaining about the rampant use of the word “Zionist” and “Zionism” on the Facebook and Instagram platforms. Ever since the October 7 event and the war it unleashed, many people are upset and making their voices heard.
The company says the word “Zionist” has long been included in its Hate Speech policy as a proxy word for Jewish or Israeli people. It is often used as a comparison to rats, Meta says, and the people who use it must now be dealt with more harshly both “online and offline.”
“Going forward, we will remove content attacking ‘Zionists’ when it is not explicitly about the political movement, but instead uses antisemitic stereotypes, or threatens other types of harm through intimidation, or violence directed against Jews or Israelis under the guise of attacking Zionists, including:
– Claims about running the world or controlling the media;
– Dehumanizing comparisons, such as comparisons to pigs, filth, or vermin;
– Calls for physical harm;
– Denials of existence;
– Mocking for having a disease.”
Some of the stakeholders involved in the process told Meta that many uses of the term “Zionist” simply refer to the adherents of an ideology rooted in history. Some Jews are not Zionists, for instance, and some Zionists are not Jews, which means the term is not interchangeable with Jewish heritage.
On the other hand, some stakeholders say that increased use of the term “Zionist” and “Zionism” since October 7 clearly points to Jewish people at large, which makes it a racist trope.
“In addition to these consultations, we conducted multiple rounds of academic literature reviews, qualitative user research, and on-platform research designed to help us understand how people use and understand the term ‘Zionist’ on our platforms,” Meta said.
“In March, this work culminated with a Policy Forum on this issue.”
In short, Facebook and Instagram will now selectively ban posts and users for using Zionist terminology in a way other than “legitimate free expression.” This follows changes made by Mark Zuckerberg back in 2020 to outlaw Holocaust denial as well as all content that depicts “Jewish people running the world or controlling major institutions such as media networks, the economy or the government.”
“The idea of banning content that promotes stereotypes of Jewish global control came up a year ago, in a meeting with several Jewish groups convened by Facebook, and was pushed primarily by the World Jewish Congress,” reported The Jewish Daily at the time.
