The Left-wing ‘mainstream’ media’s latest attempt to drown out competing voices: Label them ‘fake news’

(Freedom.news) The Founding Fathers and the original 13 colonies wanted to make sure that media outlets in the New World were completely free from government control, so they could publish unfiltered, uncensored news that would ostensibly inform while serving as a check on those in power.

My, how a couple of hundred years can change things.

Today the so-called “mainstream” media is full of Left-wing, pro-government types that self-censor in a way that would have made King George III proud. And what they can’t shout down, ridicule into oblivion or simply ignore they now call “fake.”

Indeed, we feel strongly that this very site would be considered one of those “peddling fake news” – but it’s only because we dare to challenge Left-wing orthodoxy and refuse to kowtow to government “masters” who aim to rule us with an iron fist.

You know, like real journalists are supposed to do.

The Washington Times‘ Kelly Riddell addressed this very phenomenon in a recent column:

What worries me the most about fake news, isn’t that it’s fake, it’s that it’s being used by the left to try to silence opposing views.

Take for example a story reported by the Los Angeles Times that included a professor who put together a Google document of “false, misleading, clickbait-y and satirical ‘news sources’” to help people “cleanse their newsfeeds of misinformation.”

The only problem with the list, was it included real news sites of which the professor simply didn’t agree. Conservative blogs, including Red State and The Blaze, were on the list, as was more centrist, but GOP-leaning Independent Journal Review (IJR). None of those sites are fake — they often just peddle in the real news purposely not covered by the mainstream media.

None of the obvious far-Left ‘mainstream’ sites, channels or news agencies – Washington Post, Huffington Post, CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC, etc. – made the professor’s list. Oddly, only conservative or right-leaning sites. So, if you just disagree politically or have made a conscious decision to cover Democratic politicians and presidents as fairly as you cover Republicans, your news is “fake.”

CNN’s media columnist Brian Stelter also has warned about “fake news,” but in his diatribe, he included right-leaning Fox News and alt-right website Breitbart in the mix, Riddell wrote.

“Breitbart is anti-media. Much of Fox News is anti-media. Fake news websites and some right wing blogs are anti-media. These outlets provide a different audience with a different set of facts about the world. But too often what they’re really selling is opinion and conspiracy theory masquerading as fact. These sites, these outlets, they present themselves as the opposite of traditional news sources, the antidote to mainstream media,” he said.

Anti-media? Why? Because they don’t subscribe to big government liberalism?

That’s absurd, of course, but this “fake news” narrative was created by the establishment press that was in the tank for now-vanquished Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton after the election, to assuage their loss and to de-legitimize Donald J. Trump’s victory.

Being to the right of a political issue is certainly taking a position and we get that. But taking a different viewpoint politically doesn’t make what we’re reporting any less valid or “real.” In fact, we are providing exactly the kind of balance our founders wanted to ensure the American media always had.

If the whining crybabies in the Left-wing media understood that, perhaps the public’s trust in them would be higher.
